Free Patient Notification System Available for Notice of Any Plasma-Product Recalls or Withdrawals from the Market
The Patient Notification System is a free, confidential, 24 hour communication system providing information on plasma-derived and recombinant analog therapy withdrawals and recalls.
All current Alpha-1 augmentation therapy products—Prolastin, Zemaira and Aralast—are made from human blood plasma. Should any of them be recalled or withdrawn from the market, anyone in the Patient Notification System would be notified.
The system was created to provide consumers with a single, convenient, and confidential source for up-to-date withdrawal and recall information. Led by the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA), the Patient Notification System was developed by the producers and distributors of plasma therapies with direct input from consumers.
Both the Alpha-1 Foundation and the Alpha-1 Association are on the Notification System advisory panel. The manufacturers involved include the augmentation therapy companies Baxter Healthcare, CSL Behring and Talecris Biotherapeutics.
