Miss New Jersey Contestant Chooses Alpha-1

LINWOOD, NJ – Kate Bozzelli, 18, is Miss Atlantic County and has chosen Alpha-1 awareness as her theme for the Miss New Jersey contest, the winner of which will compete in the Miss America pageant.

Bozzelli’s grandfather died from the effects of Alpha-1 and an uncle has liver damage from Alpha-1-related liver disease. Her pageant platform is aptly titled, “KATE – Knowledge Awareness Together Embrace – I’ve Won with Alpha-1.”

Bozzelli, a senior at Mainland Regional High School in Linwood, is one of just 28 students accepted for the highly competitive architecture program at Drexel University in Philadelphia. She has been active in community projects throughout high school, including doing choreography for a middle school play, helping to raise funds to pay school tuition for seven girls in Mexico, and playing the Scarecrow in her school’s production of “The Wiz” last year.

Bozzelli has attended Alpha-1 education days and appeared in a “Health Watch” clip on local television.
