Long-time Friend Offers Liver Donation to RI Alpha
SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — David Gitlitz didn’t think very often about the miracle of organ transplants until it became clear that he might need a miracle himself. And to the rescue came a very dear friend.
Gitlitz was diagnosed with Alpha-1 shortly after a surgeon performing an emergency appendectomy on him noticed that his liver did not look healthy. Soon it was apparent that he needed a liver transplant right away.
Several family members and friends offered donations of their livers to Gitlitz—but it was a 20-year friendship that brought Gitlitz his life-saving transplant.
