Foundations Push Medicare to Provide Pulmonary Rehab

WASHINGTON, DC – The Alpha-1 Foundation and the COPD Foundation have joined with several other organizations to press for the inclusion of pulmonary rehabilitation legislation in the Medicare package likely to emerge from Congress this year.

The foundations join the American Association for Respiratory Care, the American Thoracic Society, the National Association for Medical Direction of Respiratory Care, and others in the push to make pulmonary rehabilitation a Medicare benefit.

“We’re proud that these two foundations are the only patient groups to help fund this vital effort,” said Miriam O’Day, Senior Director, Public Policy, for the Alpha-1 Foundation. The funds will be used to hire the Washington firm of Elmendorf Strategies to assist with the effort.
