Foundation's Celebration of Life Had the Beat to Beat Alpha-1 -- to the Tune of $300 Thousand for Alpha-1 Research

MIAMI – With a theme of “We Got the Beat to Beat Alpha-1,” the Alpha-1 Foundation held its 8th annual Celebration of Life Friday, May 2, featuring two bands – including committee members Jose “Pepe” Ortega and Renato “Renny” Tirador – performing for donations, and a karaoke evening with attendees bidding to hear their favorite performers.

The event raised more than $300,000 for Alpha-1 Foundation research and programs.

Honorary chairs were Leopoldo and Marilina Fernandez, and Ron and Karen Fraser; with co-chairs Gordon and Ruth Cadwgan, and Jose “Pepe” and Ana Ortega.

The day began with a golf tournament at the Indian Creek Country Club. A cocktail reception and silent auction followed, with the evening concluding with karaoke, dinner and dancing to the Continental Brass Band.

Talecris Biotherapeutics was the anchor sponsor for the dinner-dance and Centric Health Resources the anchor sponsor for the golf tournament. CSL Behring was a contributing sponsor.

Celebration of Life has become an annual highlight of the Foundation’s continuing effort to raise awareness and funds for Alpha-1 research and programs.
