Alpha-1 Protein Helps 'Cure' Diabetes in Mice

In a report by the New Scientist and BBC News, a team of scientists at Harvard University made the discovery that by adding the protein alpha-1 antitrypsin in combination with three other drugs, they may have discovered a cure for type 1 diabetes.

The scientists found that the alpha-1 protein was able to successfully regenerate the cells that make insulin in mice afflicted with type 1 diabetes. Hope for human trials are in the near future.
